Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular tourist destination located in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a monument dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, the famous Indian Hindu monk and philosopher who is said to have meditated on the rock where the memorial is now located.
The memorial was built in 1970 in the middle of the sea, on a rock island about 500 meters off the mainland. It was constructed in the traditional Indian architectural style, and consists of two main structures – the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam. The Vivekananda Mandapam is a meditation hall with a statue of Swami Vivekananda, while the Shripada Mandapam is a shrine dedicated to a foot imprint of the goddess Devi.
Visitors can reach the Vivekananda Rock Memorial by taking a ferry from the mainland. The memorial offers stunning views of the surrounding sea and the Kanyakumari coastline. It is a popular destination for tourists, pilgrims and spiritual seekers. The memorial is also known for hosting the grand Vivekananda Rock Memorial Festival every year, which attracts visitors from all over the country.
