Udayagiri Fort
Udayagiri Fort is an ancient fort located in Kanyakumari, India. It was built in the 17th century by the then King Raja Marthanda Varma of the Venad kingdom. The fort was built to protect the kingdom from the Dutch invaders.
The fort is situated atop a hillock and is spread across an area of 6 acres. It is constructed in the shape of a horseshoe and is surrounded by a ditch on three sides. The fort has two main gates and a secret escape gate. The main gate is guarded by four bastions and the other gate is guarded by two bastions.
The fort has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, a church and a mosque. Inside the fort, there are various chambers and halls. The fort also has two watch towers, two water tanks, and a windmill.
The fort also serves as a major tourist attraction in Kanyakumari. The fort offers a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea and a picturesque view of the surrounding hills. The fort is open to visitors all year round and is well maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
